Umhlanga is the larger suburb of Durban, which includes the town of Umhlanga, in which gateway and the conference venue is, Umhlanga rocks (beach area) and Umhlanga ridge (new office and hotel development).

Passport and visa requirements

Depending on your nationality, and the purpose and duration of your visit, you may not need a visa to visit South Africa. Read more on: http://www.southafrica.info/travel/documents/.
We strongly advise all participants travelling to South Africa to check the relevant visa requirements and to apply for their visa at least 2 months in advance of the conference.

You will need:

  • A valid passport or travel document that will be valid for the length of your intended stay; Your passport should have at least TWO blank facing pages in it
  • Sufficient funds
  • A return or onward ticket
  • Yellow fever certificates – if your journey starts or passes through the yellow fever belt of Africa or South America
  • A valid visa, if required

 

Confirmed participants will receive an invitation letter to be used in all visa applications once the payment for registration has been received.

It is the delegate’s responsibility to obtain the appropriate visa and the conference is unable to intervene in the process.

The hotel offers rooms for registered participants at the following rates (pp per night):
Single:    R1300.00
Sharing:  R1500.00

Protea Hotel Umhlanga
Single: R2170 pp per night (includes breakfast)

Dinner is not available at the hotel – there are four restaurants close to the hotel (in Umhlanga Rocks).

Garden Court Umhlanga
Single:  R2700 pp per night (including bed/breakfast)

The hotel offers dinner at R300

Very near the main food court at the Gateway Mall.

EbbTide B&B
Single: R1500 pp per night standard room (including bed/breakfast)
Penthouse R2000 pp per night (including bed/breakfast)

There is no dinner is available at this venue.

The local currency in South Africa is the Rand (ZAR). The sign for the Rand is R.

Costs

Dinner at fast food restaurants will cost around R100. For sit-down meals in the various restaurants you should expect to pay between R100-250.

A huge choice of both chain restaurants and independent restaurants is available.

Getting around

There are no buses or trains running from the airport so travelling by rental car or taxi is the only option to get to town.
